Bharata Natyam orginated over 3000 years
ago in the South Indian Hindu Temples.
The dance was a prayer expressed through
powerful footwork, elegant hand gestures
and vibrant facial expressions.
Shakti, the dancing phoenix brings to you
the sheer joy and energy of the dance.
Programme:

Alarippu : An invocation / a prayer.

Shiva Tandava : Powerful dance of
Lord Shiva, god of creation, desturction and dance.

Varnum : The most elaborate item in the
Bharata Natyam repertoire. It is a combination of abhinaya (facial expressions and emotions) and Jati (pure dance). Varnum is a love story and depicts a woman longing for her lover who is far away and wishing he will return to her.
